This cute craft is perfect for kindergarteners and preschoolers – or any child that is working on their pincer grasp.
You can choose one of my Christmas stocking templates – preferably a larger one – and print it out onto cardstock or construction paper.
Then you will give your child some Elmer’s glue and some cotton balls and have them fill in the puffy white part at the top of the stocking.
They can then color in the rest of the stocking using markers, glitter, or other embellishments.
For this craft, you will need a hole punch and some festive yarn in red or green.
You’ll pick one of the larger Christmas stocking templates and print it out onto cardstock.
Have your child color it in and decorate it, then cut it out.
Next, you’re going to punch holes, about an inch-and-a-half apart, all around the perimeter of the stocking.
Then, you’ll take the yarn and loop it through, knotting it on the back to secure the yarn.
You have a rustic, knitted-looking Christmas stocking craft that would look great on a fridge, a mantle, or the railing to your stairs.
You can use my Christmas stocking templates as embellishments for your DIY greeting cards come the holiday season.
You could use one large stocking or several small stockings; if the latter, you could draw on the front of the card a mantle and have the stockings hanging from it.
Just color in and cut out the stockings and then paste them to the card; make sure the paste goes all the way to the edges of the cutouts.
You can use my Christmas stocking templates to create beautiful home holiday decorations – you only need your imagination and some supplies.
For example, you could print out a stocking template onto cardstock, cover the stocking with festive green plaid fabric, add a bit of white fuzz to the top, and hang it on a wall.
Or you could digitally color in multiple Christmas stockings, print the page and frame it, and set it on a coffee table or your kitchen counter.

If your classroom needs some livening up for the holiday season, you can recruit your students to decorate my Christmas stocking templates.
Give them lots of supplies, like markers, glitter, fabric swatches, stickers, little embellishments, etc., and let them have an afternoon of creating and crafting.
Then, when they’re done, and all the glue has dried, hang up the stockings around your classroom so that everyone can see what they have made.
You could use my templates to hold an “Ugly Christmas Stocking” contest and have the kids decorate and compete for the title.
Or you could have them complete any of the crafts I have listed here, particularly the cotton ball and knitted stockings.
My stocking templates would make super cute Christmas tree ornaments – you only need shrink sheets, which you can find online at Amazon for less than $10.
You’ll print out the templates you want to use onto the shrink sheets; note that whatever their starting size, it’ll about halve after they’ve shrunk.
Have your kids color in the stockings and cut them out, then punch holes at the top (for the ribbon to go through later).
Bake them per the instructions and let them cool completely. You can then add embellishments to them using a hot glue gun, like sequins, mini-bells, glitter, etc.
Tie off a piece of ribbon through the hole you punched and hang them on the tree.
You can use my stocking templates for a number of fun, educational classroom activities for both reading/writing and math.
For example, in one of my larger templates, you could draw lines on the stocking and pass out copies to your students; the prompt could be “What I want for Christmas…”
You could also write in math word problems, like, “Emily has five presents, and Lauren has seven. How many presents total do the girls have?”
These stocking templates could also be used as a very basic pattern for an actual cloth stocking.
You’ll need to cut all around the stocking, leaving about an inch of paper from the outline.
You can then pin the paper stocking down onto the fabric to get a general sense of the shape and cut the fabric to the pattern.
Whether you’re making a poster to announce a Christmas party or a holiday choir performance, my stocking templates can be used as a decoration alongside the text.
You’ll need to copy and paste the stocking you want to use into the document you’re using to make your poster.
